Peroneal Neuropathy, also known as Fibular Neuropathy, is a specific type of peripheral neuropathy that affects the lower leg and foot of the sufferer. The Peroneal Nerve is a branch of the sciatic nerve that controls movement and sensation in the lower leg, foot and toes. Damage to this nerve can lead to walking problems, toe drag or even “foot drop”.

  • A walking pattern in which there is a noticeable “slap” of the foot against the ground
  • While walking the patients toe’s drag
  • Generalized difficulty walking
  • Weakness in the feet or ankles
  • Loss of muscle due to lack of stimulation from the damaged nerves

Nerve Testing for Peroneal Neuropathy -

Your treating physician may refer you for nerve testing such as:

  • Electromyography (EMG) to measure the electrical activity of the muscles in question
  • Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) also known as Nerve Conduction Tests to test the speed and nerve amplitudes with which electrical signals move through a specific nerve
